Postponing Your Dental Care? 3 Signs You Need To See Your Family Dentist Right Away

Sofia Curtis

If you don't see your dentist on a regular basis, you might be at an increased risk for dental problems. If your teeth look fine, you might not think that you have anything to worry about, but that's not the case. You could have problems going on under the surface that you haven't noticed yet. Not only that but there could be factors in your life that are increasing your risk for dental problems. Read the list provided below. If any of those statements pertain to you, it's time to schedule an appointment with your family dentist

You Eat a lot of Processed Food

If you haven't seen the dentist in a while, it's time to take a closer look at your daily diet. If your diet is rich in fresh fruit and vegetables, you're taking the right steps to protect your teeth. However, if your diet is high in processed food and sugary beverages, you need to see your dentist. You might not realize this, but processed food and sugary beverages can do serious damage to your teeth. In fact, they increase your risk of developing tooth decay and cavities. To protect your teeth, schedule an appointment with your dentist as soon as possible.

You Don't Floss Your Teeth

If you brush your teeth at least twice a day, you might think that you're practicing proper dental hygiene. That isn't the case. To practice effective dental hygiene, you also need to be flossing at least twice a day. In fact, it's actually a good idea to floss after each meal. Flossing your teeth helps to remove the bacteria and food particles that can cause dental problems such as plaque, tooth decay, and gum disease. If you're not properly flossing your teeth on a daily basis, you need to schedule a dental exam. You could have hidden dental problems that need to be addressed.

You Smoke Cigarettes

If you smoke cigarettes or use tobacco products such as smokeless tobacco, you should be seeing your dentist on a regular basis. Smoking cigarettes, or using smokeless tobacco products, increases your risk for oral cancers, including mouth, tongue, and cheek cancers. If you haven't had a recent dental exam, you need to schedule one as soon as possible. Your family dentist can provide you with oral cancer screenings.

Don't take chances with your teeth. If you haven't had a dental exam in at least a year, and you're experiencing any of the issues described above, contact your family dentist right away.
